Born in the original Delano Hospital on November 20, 1962, Michael Gregg Medina was the youngest and third son of Eustaquio and Feliza Medina. He is survived by former wife Andrea, their son Gregory and daughter-in-law Tiffany with beautiful and grandson Kit. Brothers Raymond and Max are the remaining Medinas and truly miss our "ah-ding"...Little Brother.
Michael served alongside his brothers, Raymond and Max as an altar boy a few years at St. Jude's Church in Earlimart. With a loving mother’s oversight and patience, Michael’s faith began and kept on until the day he died.
Michael attended Earlimart Elementary School, Earlimart Jr. High School, and graduated from Delano High School with the Class of 1980. For junior college, Michael was dorm president at Prator Hall while taking general ed classes at Bakersfield College.
Michael’s job experiences were always related to his natural talent to help, serve, and work hard. Michael’s first job was with dad for a summer tending to the vineyards of Vincent V. Zaninovich & Sons. His friendship with the Zaninovich Family, Nick and Al, was lifelong. His other teenage job was working after school with his high school buddy, Phillip Campos at the Jackson Family Chevron gas station where he learned customer service and all sorts of car maintenance. Across the street was the Domingo family home where he took breaks and hung out with Ceasar. Michael also worked in medical sales which was a blessing. It proved helpful because Micheal and Andrea were taking care of our dad at the time before he died.
Michael’s last job before he recently became ill was working with Ed Kinney of KinCo Construction in Bakersfield. Through this experience, Michael paid attention to detail and was exposed to some amazing clients while remodeling their homes or offices. All the Medina Family are grateful and blessed by the kindness, opportunity, and generosity provided by Mr. Kinney for Michael.
Michael is also known as the most humorous Medina and it was contagious. When dad died, he took over as comic relief and along with Raymond, he was the ultimate “dad joke” teller. His style of humor touched all- young/old, himself/others, and Filipino or not. Deep down and known by his closest people, Michael was aware of his brokenness. His humor and hard work were his way of finding comfort. His brothers and Christian family knew of his personal need and desire to know the love of his Savior. His humor was a gift that brought tears and gut-wrenching laughs for many.
Michael dealt with many life disappointments, but the knowledge and love of Christ in Him, sustained him, even when outwardly, his world was different. The Medina Family is thankful to Micheal’s church family where they gave him purpose, a place to serve, and find the encouragement of Christ as his Lord until the very end. In his last days, Michael had a place to worship and fuel the faith that began with his mother.
Michael died in his sleep at the family home where he was born and grew up, but we know for sure he is now where he belongs- enjoying, resting, and praising our God in Jesus Christ who was always in his life, never left him, and now has finally brought him home.
