His memory was very prodigious, when it comes to sports especially basketball that he love so much.  You can ask him about anything about the players, who won the championship, what year?  Oh.. he will quickly tell you with full details with much enthusiasm, who is playing against what team time and where.  He always has a copy of a full schedule of the game for the whole season, that’s how fanatic he was.   He has numerous hats, matching shoes and socks, a complete jersey..the Lakers.  Before the game starts, he will have his dinner early.  Otherwise if they lose he will be upset and loses his appetite. Also (with smile) on the third quarter of the game, if the Lakers are losing, he starts getting nervous.  You can hear his candy from his mouth making sounds like a slate marble clapping with his dentures.  On the last quarter, Oh you can tell he is soo.. tense.  He starts talking and yelling if they missed the ball or missed a basket.  But.. one funny thing is he keeps getting up and keeps going to the bathroom (with smile).  He can’t keep still.  Keep shaking his head, takes deep breath, sigh and soo disappointed.  But.. as of this time, we know the Lakers won and they are going for Championship.  Last night, first game they won and so probably he was full of joy and excited and will be looking forward for the game.  Yeey.. alright thumps up clap 3 times.. So there you go, off you go Tata, maybe you’ll see Kobe up there, sit with him at the bench and have a good time. Say hello, hugs and kisses to our dear mother, grandma Belen, Manong Tante (I missed them so much) our grandmas, grandpas, Uncle Piping, Manong Romeo, Auntie Inyang, grandma Moning and all our family and friends.

First of all I want to thank everyone for coming to celebrate my father’s memory and his legacy.
He is the pillar, patriarch of the Tutop for 5 generations.  Tata, I would not be here in America without you, without your parents, my grandparents Arcadio and Victoria Tutop.  With this thank you and I’m so grateful.  Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be here, for having the taste of sweet life, a better life, a beautiful tomorrow.  With this,  we sincerely thank you.
He is preceded in death by my mother Avelina and my brother Constante.  My Father, Seaver Tutop was born on April 15, 1930 in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, Philippines.    His parents was Victoria Garon and Arcadio Tutop.  He had 4 brothers – Nemecio Tutop and Jose Pepe Tutop were born in Hawaii.  Fernando & and Artemio Tutop were born in the Philippines.  He met my mother, got married and had 8 children - 6 boys & 2 girls.  Rolando the oldest, Constante who passed away September of 2014, Benjamin, Robert, Johnny, Delia (me), and my sister Vilma.  Rolando & Johnny are not able to join us, Tata, due to circumstances of the COVID-19.  He has 8 children, 25 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandchildren.  He was a farmer, fisherman and wine maker.  He was a carpenter and a builder.  He built his house by his own bare hands. He goes up in the mountain to gather woods.  It’s amazing how he built his house with just few resources at that time.  
Growing up, I remember my Dad being a good provider, responsible and generous.  He was respected by relatives and friends most especially by his wife’s siblings for being generous towards them.  He helped them go to school for a higher education and for some vocational training school.

Safe Landing

Trying to understand all of life’s “what’s, how’s, and why’s” isn’t easily done or always possible. However, we can come to recognize that Grandpa Seaver unceasingly knew what was his “Why?” and purpose in life.  Grandpa Seaver only moved forward with both feet solidly planted on the ground. He did so with ambition, hope, and balance. We’ve witnessed this rare strength through the many telling stones on his life’s path.  He was a passionate storyteller to his grandchildren and even tape recorder. He played basketball and scored three-pointers, while sitting down. He reminded you before you could remind him. He loved his wife the best way a man could love a woman.
We can see Grandpa Seaver within everyone in this room. I have his eyes and at times, his unique stubbornness. You may have his sharp wit, kind smile, or stern head shake, usually meaning “no.” In all cases, it’s with his love and balance that have taught us to always land firmly on our feet and to always believe in our greatest beliefs. I have and will continue to admire his collective strides of wisdom and brute force. He was the backbone of this family. You will be greatly missed Grandpa Seaver, but you leave behind a family that is strong and resilient. We love you. Thank you for being our safe landing.
