Stella Lujan Cardona, 78, of Delano, California, passed away on March 4, 2026. Born May 7, 1947, in Rosewell, New Mexico, Stella was beloved, generous, kind-hearted, and humorous—qualities that remained evident throughout her life and in every relationship she cherished.
Stella grew up in Roswell, New Mexico, and later moved to Delano, California, where she finished high school and built a life grounded in family, faith, and service.
She dedicated many years to public service, working with the McFarland PD and the Kern County Sheriffs–Delano, before retiring from the Sheriff’s Department. Her work reflected the steady commitment and care she carried into all parts of her life.
In her quieter moments, Stella found joy in word searches, playing bingo, and reading. She especially loved cats, and those who knew her best will fondly remember that she always had to have her hair and makeup done—even if she wasn’t going anywhere.
Stella continued to value her faith and community, attending church on Sundays while in the nursing home. She was a loving grandmother who treasured family visits and loved spending time with her family, holding especially dear all her great grandchildren.
Stella also expressed heartfelt gratitude for her brother, Ismael Cardona, and the support he gave her throughout her life.
Stella is survived by her daughter, Lisa Cardona; her brother, Ismael Cardona; and her grandchildren, Cassie Palos, Leanna Beltran, Nicholas Beltran, Ayden Palos, Penelope Palos, Mia Chavez, and Matthew Chavez. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Ocampo, and her father, Ismael Cardona.
