Clifton was born on March 17, 1952 in DeQuincy, Louisiana to Vernon and Marjorie Stanley. On May 29, 1976, he married Darlene Hernandez Stanley. Together they raised two sons, Brandon and Dane.
Clifton was passionate for a great many things, but especially loved reading, music, history, and arbitrary facts. He would often with his charm smirkingly say, “If it is a useless fact, I know it!” Although, to those who loved him, we never grew tired of learning these tidbits as he offered them. The sound of Clifton’s singing, whether it be the joyful songs he composed for his grandchildren, or his own version of whatever happened to be playing at the time, will be sorely missed.
Clifton’s life was one of a million adventures. He worked countless odd jobs as a teen ranging from paper delivery boy, to filling station attendant, to derrick-hand. Most of Clifton’s career was spent working in sales, for which he truly had an unparalleled talent. His family is especially proud of his service to our country in the United States Air Force.
His greatest adventure began In 1976, where Clifton met Darlene while tending bar at the Black Angus in Lake Charles. When telling the story, he would always remark that Darlene was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen and instantly fell in love. Nine days later they were engaged, and three months later were married at St. Margaret’s Church in Lake Charles. Theirs is truly a great love story, this May would have been their 45th wedding anniversary. Clifton’s career moved his family to Sugar Land, TX in 1995, where he and Darlene remained until his passing.
In his life, Clifton traveled all over the country and the world. He passed while on one more great adventure out west in Albuquerque, NM. There are no regrets; Clifton truly lived his life, and as he would often remark, he was, “the hero of his story.”
He is survived by his wife Darlene, his two sons, Brandon and wife Carrie, Dane and his wife Sara; his brothers, Oran Glenn, Louis Aaron, Chris Doyle; his grandchildren, Grace, Ethan, Corinne, Emmy Paige, and Katie Ruth. He is loved and remembered by his many beloved nieces and nephews, cousins, and family.
Clifton was preceded in death by his father, Vernon, and his mother, Marjorie.
A Celebration of Clifton's life will be held at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home in DeQuincy on Thursday, April 1, 2021, at 12:00pm, with Bro. Eddie Hoosier officiating. Visitation will be at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, from 5:00pm until 7:00pm. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Thursday, from 9:00am until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Hyatt Cemetery in Fields, LA.
