

DeQuincy - George Stephens, 89, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2015.
Mr. Stephens was born in Bluff, Tn. and lived in DeQuincy, La. He was a retired Army Veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He enjoyed fishing, and was an avid reader. He loved his animals and cracking pecans. While serving our country in the military he received a Distinguished Service Cross, silver star (6 bronze oak leaf clusters), bronze star medal, (5 bronze oak leaf clusters) Army Commendation Medal,
Germany & Austria good conduct medal, (6 awards) Army unit citation. Croix De Guerre AVEC Etolled with Palme and Fourragere 2 times, French Army Awards, Fourragere Etole De Bronze, 2 times Belgium Army Awards, Occupation Medal of Japan, National Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal(4 battle stars) 2 Purple Hearts, United Nations Service Medal, Armed Force Korea, Lebanon, Korea Republic Korea President Unit Citation Badge, Vietnam Service Medal (5 battle stars), Purple Heart (2 bronze oak leaf clusters), Air Medal(10 bronze oak leaf clusters), Armed Forces Expedition Medal, National Defense Medal(1 bronze oak leaf cluster), Knight of Fifth Class Distinguished Service order 1st and 2nd class, Combat Infantry badge with one star, Ranger tab, sharpshooter M-16 (6-2-68 thru 8-27-70). Gallantry Cross with Palm.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Stephens of DeQuincy; sons, Jessie Cook and wife Carol of LaPorte, In. and Kenneth Cook and wife Susie of DeQuincy, La.; daughters, Judy Cook Landry of DeQuincy, La., Ann Cook Wilson and husband Dick of Mt. Juliet, Tn. and Kathy Cook Midkiff and husband Mike of DeQuincy; 9 grandchildren, Cyndi, Angie, Scott, Craig, Donna Sue, Donna Lynn, Chad, Chase & Staci ; 20 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and his special extended family, Jean, Ronnie, Alan & Beth Bryant. He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Robbie Landry.
His funeral service will be at 11:00am Wednesday, February 4, 2015 in Hixson Snider Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Good Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, February, 3, from 5:00pm until 9:00pm and resume on Wednesday at 8:00am until service time at the funeral home.
