

J.D. Franks, 86, of Oretta, La passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at his home surrounded by his wife, children and family. He was born in Bivens, La in 1927 to Jesse and Lydia Franks. J.D. Franks was a God fearing man who always put God first in all areas of his life. While dearly loved by many, he was both respected and admired by all as a man who truly walked in the footsteps of Jesus. When a congregation in this area was in need of a preacher, he was often called upon and donated his time to fulfill their need. He served as a deacon and then later an elder of the DeQuincy Church of Christ for many years. His legacy continues with several children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who are following in his footsteps as Deacons, elders and ministers of God's Word. J.D. retired from Citgo Refinery. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his garden. Many have memories of purchasing eggs from the Franks home in Oretta where J.D. and his family worked a small chicken farm for several years. He spent 65 years with his wife Dorothy who he cherished. He adored his family and spending time with them and had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jesse and Lydia Franks, brothers Leonard Franks and Lovis Franks, sisters Lille Williams, Allie Sears, Ina Franks and Opal Spears. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Boyer Franks; children Johnny Franks and wife Katherine of Hemphill, Tx, Joey Franks and wife Teresa of DeQuincy, La, Ray Franks and wife Donna of DeQuincy, Donna Manuel and husband Danny of Many, La, Marty Franks of Oretta, La and daughter-in-law Karla Kinney of Evans, La; three brothers, M.B. Franks of Oretta, La, RC Franks of Bivens, La and Hubert Franks of Newton, Tx and a sister, Otha Lee Hewitt of Lake Charles, La; eleven grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
Visitation will begin on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 from 1:00 til 8:00pm and resume Thursday July 18 from 8:00am until service time at the DeQuincy Church of Christ located at 225 Hall Street. Services will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at 10:00am in the church with Johnny Franks, Joey Franks, Ray Franks and Ray Hyatt officiating. Burial will be in Bivens Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Snider Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be given to the DeQuincy Church of Christ Youth Fund to futher the future of His Kingdom.
