Alfred Daniel Nixon, 71, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 19, 2018 in Lansing, Michigan. He was born June 8, 1947 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Gerald and Margaret (Dillingham) Nixon, graduated from Rockford High School, and was a proud veteran of the US Army. Al was a retiree from the State of Michigan, where he worked as a computer analyst. He was naturally gifted in all things regarding electronics, sound systems, computers, and radio repair. Al was able to use his sound system talent working with Forgiven Ministry, a prison ministry that captivated his heart from the first time he attended a camp. He loved to fly and was very thrilled to obtain a private pilot’s license at the young age of 62. If he wasn’t in the sky, then given the opportunity, Al would be on the water in a boat with a fishing pole in his hand. He had a soft heart for people with challenges and was always ready to lend a hand to them, especially being a “taxi driver” to get folks to church. Perhaps our beloved Al will be remembered most fondly by his wonderful sense of humor and ability to make us laugh until we cried whenever he told a joke.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Robbie Nixon, and his sister, Barbara Nixon Strong.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 34 years, Ruth Nixon; his children, John (Maggie) Nixon and Judith (Brian) Coldicott; his grandchildren, James, Alexander, William, and Katelyn; his great-grandchildren, Charlie and Jozlyn; his brother, Edward (Sandy) Nixon, as well as his special “Forgiven Ministry Team”.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at 12pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, DeWitt Chapel, 205 E. Washington St., DeWitt. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Forgiven Ministry, Inc., PO Box 117, Taylorsville NC 28681, www.forgivenministry.org
