Avis graduated from the old Central High School in Lansing, MI. She married her first husband Clifton in 1940 and together the two would have children Sandy and Tom, and lived in the Haslett area for many years. Avis lost her first husband Clifton Haviland Jr. in 1961. She worked in Customer Service for Sears for many years until retirement. In the 1980's she met and married Gail Potter. The two lived in Haslett, and the Wacousta area. Gail passed away in 1999.
Surviving are her daughter Sandy (Tom) Nelson, son Tom (Susan) Haviland, grandson, Greg Nelson, as well as three great-grandchildren; Jessica Nelson, Mitzi Nelson, and Kyle Nelson.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation will take place and a private family memorial will be held in May of 2019.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Staff of Story Point in Grand Ledge and their Hospice Team.
