Carrie was born in Toledo, OH and graduated from Whitmer High School in 1971. She later went on to get her Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology at the University of Toledo in 1975, where she was also the president of Kappa Delta Sorority. She completed her Medical Technology Internship at St. Vincent Hospital in 1976. Following her incredible academic history, she was a Medical Technologist at St. Vincent Hospital until 1985. After 14 years of being a homemaker for her husband and 2 children, she returned to work part-time in sewing sales and sewing teaching/instruction until 2013 when she retired to be a full-time grandmother to Grant, Cameron, and Claire, whom she loves dearly and who deeply love her.
Carrie was the current Secretary for the American Sewing Guild’s Lansing Chapter, where she was a member for 8 years. She was very enthusiastic about sewing. She had a vast knowledge of sewing techniques, machines, supplies and fabrics. She shared this knowledge through teaching others. She was the Serger Technique Group Leader for the Lansing Clippers sewing group and was also a member of the Prayer Shawl & Quilt Ministry at St. Jude Catholic Church. What she enjoyed most was stitching so much love into the pajamas, shorts, tee shirts, and Halloween costumes she made for her 3 adorable grandchildren.
Carrie enjoyed staying fit in any way she could, including anaerobic exercising, taking walks, and going on bike rides. In her down time, she loved to read and was a frequent patron of the DeWitt Public Library.
Carrie married her husband, Joseph, on August 29, 1975, in Toledo, OH. Carrie and Joe spent 47 wonderful years of marriage together. She was also a loving mother and an exceptional grandmother. She leaves behind a sister, two brothers, a sister-in-law, a niece, three nephews, many loved and loving cousins, and a very dear aunt and uncle. She maintained long-term relationships with close friends she had in Phoenix, AZ and Rochester Hills, MI, places where she previously resided. She will miss the physical company of her many friends in her sewing groups, and those at St. Jude Church.
Carrie was the beloved wife of Joseph P. Kittle; loving mother of Lisa A. (Gregory) Heil and the late Steven J. Kittle; cherished grandmother of Grant Heil, Cameron Heil, and Claire Heil; and dear sister of George M. Haig, Cynthia A. (Haig) Adrahtas, Timothy A. Haig and Thomas T. Haig. She always enjoyed family gatherings that often included her niece, Carrie J. Adrahtas, and, at times, also included her nephews Thomas N. Adrahtas, Michael A. Haig, and Matthew B. Haig.
Carrie’s passing is a devastating loss to her entire family and to her many friends and neighbors, and she will be deeply missed. She is gone far too soon. She fought her last illness fearlessly and valiantly in order to be with her grandchildren as long as she physically could. Now, in her new life with Christ, she’ll be a loving guardian angel for all of them.
