Dave was born in Lansing, MI on November 22, 1952 to Roy and Mary (Bond)
Dodson (deceased). Surviving is wife Debra Ann (Livingston) Dodson, sons Matthew
(Ashley) Dodson, Brian (Sara) Dodson, brother Michael (Janet) Dodson. Sister Linda
(Dodson) Harrison (deceased). He leaves his beautiful grandchildren, Anndee,
Lucas, Abigail, Emmett and Liam.
Dave graduated from Eastern High School. After high school, he served in the Navy
Reserves and was honorably discharged. He received his associates degree from
Lansing Community College, his bachelors degree in Nursing from the University of
Michigan and his masters degree in Public Administration from Western Michigan
University. Dave worked as a surgical tech, registered nurse and hospital
administrator at the Greenlawn campus of Ingham Medical Center where he
specialized in nursing education and patient care management. After leaving
Ingham Medical Center, he was employed by the Michigan Surgery Center.
As a husband, there was no better. Dave overlooked my many flaws. He always
wanted me to feel loved….and he did. Loving, caring, funny, smart and a great
listener with good advice when asked for. He was my strength. My anchor. A quiet,
gentle soul that will be incredibly missed. The true love of my life.
Dave sincerely loved being in the presence of his five grandchildren. He adored the
plentiful artistic renderings they provided on birthdays and holidays. Each one found
a place on the refrigerator or mantle. As a lover of sports, it was always exciting for
Dave to attend soccer, baseball and flag football in which they participated. But
most of all, he enjoyed the sounds of their laughter and youthful perspective of the
world around them. “Papa” is so proud of you Anndee, Lucas, Emmett, Abi and
Liam.
To his sons, he provided a calm, soft spoken and supportive foundation that will be
so dearly missed. He taught them to be honest, sincere, compassionate and above
all things, to treat others as you would want to be treated. So many lessons were
taught and stories told on camping trips over Labor Day and Memorial Day
weekends with family and friends. Dad had so many great friends from his time
working at Ingham Medical Center. The softball games when he played for the
Stanley Steamers at Marshall, Comstock and Gier Parks were the highlight of many
evenings for his boys. The pool parties afterward with good food, drinks and
plentiful laughter, provided so many great memories of dad. Dave was an amazing
father to his boys. They loved every moment they had with their hero.
“May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the
sun shine warm on your face. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the
palm of his hand.”
