Douglas A. Reed, 91, of Dewitt, Michigan, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025. Born on July 10, 1933, to Donald A. Reed and Wilma C. (Henning) Reed, Douglas lived a full and vibrant life marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and a love for the outdoors.
A proud graduate of Dewitt High School, where he served as class president, Douglas then went on to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, spending time stationed in Alaska. After his military service, he embraced a hardworking life as both a truck driver and a farmer.
Douglas was married to Laura until her passing and later to Orva until her passing as well. In his later years, he shared a special companionship with Eleanor Barnes. He found joy in polka and square dancing, sailing at Otsego Lake in Gaylord, snowmobiling, deer hunting, farming, and motorcycling—activities that reflected his zest for life.
He is survived by his children Douglas Reed; Dennis (Joyce Jubb) Reed; Daniel "Duffy" (Robyn) Reed; and Debora (Ed) Sumner. He is also survived by his siblings: Daryl (Martha) Reed; Dale (Barbara) Reed; and Dorthey Hart (late husband Cliff); as well as nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Diane Reed and Doloris Reed.
Visitation will be held at Gorsline-Runciman Dewitt Chapel, 205 E. Washington St., Dewitt, MI 48820, on Monday, January 20, 2025, from 5–7 p.m. A funeral service will follow on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at 11 a.m., with an hour of visitation prior. Burial will take place at the City of Dewitt Cemetery following the service, with a luncheon afterward at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Society for lymphoma and leukemia research. May Douglas’s memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
