Edward Patrick McCrackin (“Eddie”), a lifetime resident of DeWitt, Michigan, died unexpectedly on February 23, 2024. Ed was born in Lansing, Michigan, on June 4, 1965, to Patrick and Sharon McCrackin. Raised in DeWitt, Ed graduated from DeWitt High School in 1983 and attended Northwood University from 1985-1989. At Northwood, Ed met Janis Hotze; Ed and Janis were married from 1991 to 2016 and together raised two amazing daughters, Kate McCrackin and Elle McCrackin.
After leaving Northwood and returning to DeWitt, Ed worked at Pat McCrackin Ford until its closure in 2004. Following that, Ed put his carpentry and building skills to use with Wall-to-Wall Flooring, then later followed his passions for the outdoors through his work at Sportsman’s Warehouse.
Ed was happiest where life was simplest; his daily breakfasts with his mother, and doing anything with his family, especially his daughters, but also with siblings and many cousins, and preferably in nature. Ed was an avid outdoorsman who found peace and solace in the wilderness year round, whether hunting, fishing, hiking, kayaking, or camping. He didn’t just enjoy these activities; he lived for them. His loyalty to and love for his family was unmatched. But he extended that loyalty and love to anyone he met, and he thrived on helping anyone he could.
Ed is survived by the mother of their children and partner, Janis McCrackin; his children, Kate McCrackin and Elle McCrackin; his mother, Sharon Gertrude McCrackin; his siblings, Susan Hall, Kevin (Chris) McCrackin, and Annie (Chris) Caldwell; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Patrick Joseph McCrackin (1935-2018) and his grandparents, Homer and Florence Barnes and Richard and Margaret McCrackin.
Public visitations will be held on Wednesday, February 28, from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm, with rosary at 7pm, at Gorsline Runciman - DeWitt Chapel, 205 E. Washington Street, DeWitt, Michigan 48820.
