

Our loving Mom, Grammie, Sister and Friend went to the Lord on April 6, 2013. She was born on March 22, 1925 to Clarence and Elizabeth (Flues) Chard. Her childhood was spent with her close knit family in Greenwich, Connecticut. She cherished her childhood memories and remained close to her siblings throughout her life. Betty loved the outdoors, boating and ice skating. She sang in her church choir with her mother and sister. Betty was a dedicated wife and mother. She was married to Loren Hatch for 52 years. He preceded her in death on August 28, 1998. Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, April (Kevin Jordon) Riggs, Mark (Anne) Hatch, and Loren (Tracey) Hatch; grandchildren, Heather and Christopher Riggs, Sarah (Todd) Alexander, Julie Hatch, Ian, Zoe and Rachel Hatch; Great grand-daughter, Anna Alexander; siblings, Robert Chard and Nancy Barbour; her longtime companion and dear friend, Hope Thelen. Her family would like to thank her dedicated caregivers and friends at Rosewood Adult Foster Care in DeWitt and Hometown Hospice for their wonderful care and spiritual support. A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes DeWitt Chapel, 205 E. Washington, DeWitt, Michigan. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association Great Lakes Chapter, 310 N. Main, Suite 100, Chelsea, MI 48118 and/or Redeemer United Methodist Church, 13980 Schavey Road, DeWitt, MI 48820 in memory of Elizabeth L. Hatch.
