Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, after a valiant fight against cancer over the past 38 years. She is preceded in death by her grandparents Louis and Gena Smith and Oscar and Dicie Craner, all past residents of Manton, MI. Her Parents Eugene and Marcia Smith of Holt, MI and her beloved Aunt Faith Craner, Uncle Dale and Aunt Lillian Craner of Lansing, MI.
Janet is survived by her husband of over 44 years Don Thompson, daughter Michelle Lynn Thompson, son Joe Thompson, and the love of her life, granddaughter Avalyn Marie Thompson. She is also survived by her sister Michelle (Dave) Robinson and family, brothers Gary (Karen) Smith and family and Paul (Jenne) Smith and family. She was greatly loved by her extended family of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
Janet served on staff at Northpointe Community Church in Dewitt for over 23 years as administrative assistant and facilities and grounds coordinator. She also passionately led the Grief Share counseling program in which she greatly encouraged others that were grieving. She is loved and will be greatly missed by the staff and our entire church family, for which our family is greatly thankful.
Janet was an avid and passionate golfer with literally hundreds of friends too numerous to mention. She will be greatly missed by all, especially her closest partners and friends Cheryl Fellum, Charlie Black, Melanie Miller, Barb Szkotnicki, Sharon Thornton, Courtney Ferden, Shelly White and so many others. All of these ladies shared Janet's passion for golf. Everyone who ever met or knew Janet was drawn to her infectious smile and loving personality.
A service for Janet will be held at Northpointe Community Church, 505 East Webb Rd., Dewitt MI on Saturday May 9th. Visitation will be at 2:00 pm, service beginning at 3:00 pm, to be followed by a meal provided by the church. There will be no graveside service. All are invited to participate in all three phases of the celebration.
