Judith Ann Maki, our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 20, 2017 at the age of 71. The wife of an evangelist and missionary, Judith was a woman of great faith and devoted her life to the service of others. She loved to travel and was blessed with the opportunity to minister in more than 60 countries, the United States, and Canada.
A talented writer with a passion for Sunday School children’s ministry, Judith developed instructional materials for the Word Aflame Curriculum at Pentecostal Publishing House for several years. Her passion for teaching inspired her to create and lead children’s crusades and teacher training programs all around the world. Judith cherished the time spent with her family. She loved giving birthday parties for her grandchildren -- everything from Nancy Drew to dinosaurs. Her creative pursuits included flower arranging, party planning, decorating, and cooking.
She was so looking forward to assisting with her granddaughter’s upcoming wedding in May. Judith was an excellent hostess who set a beautiful table and was a great cook. It gave her immense joy to serve a meal to her family that she prepared with love with her own two hands. And there were never any leftovers. Judith loved God, her husband, her family, and her rich, vibrant life. She was greatly loved and will be sorely missed.
Judith was preceded in death by her parents, James Henry and Betty Jane Esterbrooks; and her sister, Jeanne Gayle Esterbrooks. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 53 years, evangelist and missionary, the Reverend Jonathan James Maki of DeWitt; only child and daughter, Isabella Jane (Rebecca) Rowan, and son-in-law, Alexander H. Majid, of West Palm Beach, Florida; granddaughter, Jillian Rose Baker, and future grandson-in-law, Daniel W.H. Adams of Lansing; grandson, Jonathan Charles Baker of Lansing; sister, Joy Lynn Koivisto, and brother-in-law, Lyle Koivisto, of Arizona; three nieces and one nephew.
Visitation will take place Friday, February 24, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, DeWitt Chapel, 205 E. Washington Street, DeWitt, Michigan, with the funeral service immediately following at 1 p.m. The service will be officiated by the Reverend Winton Maki. Interment will take place at Gunnisonville Cemetery. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Judith’s family.
