Born August 2, 1938, the daughter of the late Oscar and Dorothy (Buerge) Bates, died December 1, 2012 at the age of 74. She was a 1956 graduate of Ithaca High School. Kathleen retired from the Lansing School District with more than 30 years of service (mostly at Lansing Eastern). She was a member of Lansing Eastern Hall of Fame Committee, and worked as an announcer, scorekeeper and coach. She was also a devoted Spartan basketball fan. Kathleen was a member at St. Therese for over 50 years and was current member and president of St. Bernadette Circle. Gardening, sewing, and annual trips with girlfriends gave Kathleen great joy. She took great pleasure in spending time with her grandchildren and attending their many sporting events. Preceding her in death was her husband Donald Bohil (2007); brothers, Ronald Westerlund, and Douglas Bates. Kathleen is survived by daughters, Kara (Ken) Hernandez, Kendra (Omer) Guzman; grandchildren, David Hernandez, Sophia Guzman, Dominic Guzman; sisters, Lorraine Merchant, Janet (David) Hartner, Phyllis (Kenneth) Buss; sister-in-law, Edna Westerlund; 16 nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and nephews. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. (with visitation 1 hour prior to service) at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, 102 W. Randolph, Lansing, MI with Fr. Lawrence Delaney and Fr. John Fain officiating. The Rite of Committal will follow at Gunnisonville Cemetery, Lansing, MI. The family will receive friends at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 205 E. Washington, DeWitt, MI on Monday, December 3 from 5-8 p.m., and Tuesday, December 4 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with the Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Those desiring may make contributions to St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, 102 W. Randolph Street, Lansing, MI 48906 in honor of Mrs. Bohil.
