

Leon Germain passed away peacefully at home on April 5, 2013. Born in Lansing, Michigan on April 23, 1925 to Belgium immigrant parents, Achiel Garmein and Madelena Haest. The family returned to Belgium around 1930 during the Great Depression. He grew up in a small farming village in Belgium until 1949 when at the age of 24 he returned to America to work for his uncle’s family business, Victor Garmyn & Sons, from which he retired. His greatest joy in life came when he was surrounded by family and friends. Leon is survived by his wife of 54 years, Beverly A. (Adams); three daughters, Debra (Mark) Carlson, Denise (Jim Oehlschlaeger) Germain, Doreen (Rick) Judge; one son, David (Dara) Germain; five granddaughters, Heather and Anisa Judge, Kimberly (Ryan) Bushon, Amanda and Hayley Germain; one great-granddaughter, Payton Wilson; one brother, William (Marie Louise) Germain and one sister in Belgium, Clara Garmein-DeWalle. Funeral services will be held Tuesday April 9, at 11 am at St. Therese Catholic Church, 102 W Randolph St., Lansing. Interment will follow at Gunnisonville Cemetery, DeWitt. The family will receive friends at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, on Monday, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm with a scripture service being held at 7:30 pm.
