Lloyd Ballard was a devoted patriarch and steadfast pillar of his community. He built a life rooted in family, hard work and a deep love of the land and his horses. Lloyd leaves behind a legacy that will endure for generations.
Lloyd was born in Lansing, Michigan, on August 27, 1933, to Robert and Rosella Ballard. He proudly served his country, joining the Army in 1953. Upon his return home, Lloyd married his beloved wife, Marjorie, on January 14, 1956, which began their 70 years of marriage together. Lloyd and Marjorie raised their 10 children in DeWitt where he became a cornerstone of his community. For 47 years, he was a member of the DeWitt City Fire Department where he served as Captain and Assistant Chief, was one of the founders of St. Jude Catholic Church, and served on the DeWitt Public School Board. Lloyd was a prominent business owner making his mark on the community with homes throughout the city built by Lloyd Ballard Builder. In 1987, Lloyd and Marjorie inherited their family farm. They lived out their dream of raising horses and building a beautiful space coined, “Marjorie’s Meadows”. After the first purchase of his draught horses, Lloyd began participating in horse pulls throughout neighboring county fairs with his prized Belgians Sonny & LB. Many memories were made on those warm summer weekends as he was cheered on by his biggest fans - his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Marjorie Ballard; his children, Machelle (Steve) McGiveron, Mitzi (Don) Muysenberg, Kim (Rick) Stoken, Robin (Tami) Ballard, Mark (Dennel) Ballard, Stacey (Quentin) Higbie, Tonya Ballard, Chad (Katie) Ballard, Linette (Greg) Proctor, and Billie Jo Ballard; siblings, Dee (Gary) Janz, Candy Boyd, Bill (Cheryl) Ballard; 30 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren with 3 more on the way.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his daughter, Angela Ballard; his mother and father, Robert & Rosella Ballard; his brother, Robert Ballard Jr.; his sisters, Pam Ballard and Sharon Hunt; and his granddaughter, Victoria Proctor.
