

Phyllis (Amacher) Smith, age 93, passed away on Friday, May 16 at Independence Village in Grand Ledge, MI. Phyllis was born on November 13, 1931, in Stetsonville, Wisconsin, the daughter of Edward and Cenayda (Suter) Amacher.
Phyllis graduated from Medford, WI High School in 1949 and from Stout State University in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. She was a teacher for 25 years, retiring in 1986. In addition to teaching, she was a member of the Sigma, Sigma, Sigma Sorority, as well as the ImperiaLakes Women’s Golf Association and the Polk County Women’s Golf Association.
Phyllis married Stuart (Stu) Smith in 1953. They were married for 57 years, and he preceded her in death in 2010. She is survived by three sons, Tom (Nan), Bruce (Terri) and Terry (Leslie), along with 4 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, a sister, Janice, and several nieces and nephews. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, (Armond, Bud, and Mark), and 3 sisters (Jean, Bernice and Marilyn).
In keeping with Phyllis’ wishes, she will be buried alongside her husband, in the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI at a time and date to be determined.
