Thomas Joseph Flynn Jr.

DEWITT, MI

Thomas Joseph Flynn, Jr. passed peacefully on Saturday, July 4, 2015, at home with family and friends surrounding him. He was born on July 7, 1939 in Clyde Township, Wisconsin to Thomas Joseph and Josephine Clara (Schneider) Flynn, Sr.

Thomas received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Wisconsin Platteville and his Master’s Degree in Public Health from the University of Minnesota in 1967. He was well know and highly respected in the public health industry. Thomas retired from the State of Michigan Public Health Department after 22 years of service and was known as the “God of Food”. Upon retirement, his peers awarded him with the ‘Golden Probe Award’.

At one time, Thomas was an active member of the St. Jude’s Catholic Church in DeWitt and was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus, Lansing and an active member of the Polish Hall. Thomas was also a huge Green Bay Packers fan.

Preceded in death by his parents; children, Teresa Joann, Thomas Joseph III and Theodore James Flynn. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years Becky Flynn; one brother, Richard (Rosie) Flynn and one sister, Carol (Bud) Riddiough; daughter-in-law; Jodi Rials; stepdaughters, Tammy Bargerhuff and Kathy Salaiz of Arizona; grandsons, Joshua Salaiz and Spencer Flynn.

Becky and family would like to thank neighbors Jesse and Kathy Ruiz; Dave and Eileen Church for their wonderful support the last few years. Thank you also to Great Lakes Caring Hospice and Alan at Preferred Home Health Care.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home, 205 E. Washington St., DeWitt, MI and also one hour before the funeral mass which will be held Wednesday, July 8, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at St Jude’s Catholic Church, 801 North Bridge Street, DeWitt, MI. Father Dwight M. Ezop will be officiating. Interment will be in DeWitt Cemetery, DeWitt, MI.
