William (Bill) Joseph Gorman, age 84, passed away peacefully at home on April 17th, 2025. Bill was born on September 9, 1940 in Lansing, MI to Leo Thomas Gorman and Hilda Doepker Gorman. He graduated from Resurrection High School in 1958. He enlisted in the United States Air Force after high school. After his discharge from the service, Bill attended Lansing Community College and Michigan State University where he received a degree in Criminal Justice in 1971. He was employed by the State of Michigan in the office of Inspector General until his retirement in 1997.
Bill was indeed a people person. He loved talking to anyone and everyone. After his retirement, he became a docent at the Potter Park Zoo in Lansing. He was also a volunteer at the Capital Area Humane Society for many years. He loved taking a variety of small animals to schools, nursing homes and events in the community. He also loved playing cards and was in a cribbage league for many years.
In the summer months, one of his favorite pastimes was mowing the lawn on his John Deere tractor. He would get together with the guys in the neighborhood that were also mowing their lawns and shoot the breeze. Bill is the last of the "tractor gang." Bill also loved to get on the pontoon boat and teach his son Adam to fish. He always said that Lake Geneva in DeWitt is a great place to raise a family.
Bill is survived by Sally, his wife of 50 years, his sons Adam of Howell, MI and his son Eric of Overland Park, KS; his grandsons Liam and Justin (Adam) and granddaughters Macie and Myla (Eric); along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother John M. Gorman in 2004.
Bill will be remembered as a generous man with a great sense of humor. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be missed.
The family would like to especially thank the McLaren Hospice team who cared for Bill in the last week of his life.
The Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 11:30 AM with Military Honors under the auspices of the United States Air Force at the Gorsline Runciman DeWitt Chapel, 205 E. Washington St., DeWitt, MI 48820. Family will gather to greet friends beginning at 10 AM until the time of service.
Contributions may be made in his name to the Capital Area Humane Society in Lansing, MI.
