Winifred Ruth Karnes

It is with great sadness that the family of Winifred Ruth Karnes announces her passing after suffering from a stroke on February 14, 2018 at the age of 88. Winnie will be forever remembered by her three children, Andra Cocco, Steve Karnes, and Bill Karnes, their three spouses, her 10 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and her sister, Joyce Aldrich. She was predeceased by her daughter Diane Burgess. A native of Lansing, Winnie graduated from Eastern High School in 1947, where she loved playing sports and marching in the band. In 1948, she married Willis Karnes, who worked at the Lansing Fire Department and they were happily married for 50 years until his death in 1998. She enjoyed her family, cooking and baking, and knitting washcloths, hats, scarves and afghans for others. As a good listener, Winnie made everyone feel like they were the most important person in the world. She was faithful in praying every day for her family. Winnie will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Visitation will be on Friday from 6pm-8pm at Gorsline Runciman DeWitt Chapel, 205 E. Washington and also one hour prior to the funeral at church. Funeral Services will be 11am Saturday, February 17th at Woodview Church of the Nazarene, 1500 E State Rd Lansing, MI 48906. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Winnie may be directed to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan 1210 W Saginaw St, Lansing, MI 48915.
