

Irving C. “Doc” Schexnayder, Jr. was born February 5, 1935 to Irving C. Schexnayder Sr. and Loraine Fowler Schexnayder and passed away May 9, 2023. He lived nearly his entire life along the Mississippi River in Vacherie, LA, first in the home of his parents, and then in the home he built for his wife Myrna Perret Schexnayder and children Irving “Boo” Schexnayder III (Julie), Susan Schexnayder, Duane Schexnayder (Rachael), and Lynne Gisclair, all who survive him.
He is survived also by his sister Maureen Naquin; grandchildren Jeffery (Kaitlen), David, Geralyn Roussel (Jordan), Hannah Scott (Mycol), Christine Aymond (John), Kayla Harris, Lucas Marks, Lance Gisclair (Kristen), and Ethan Marks (Sydney); great-grandchildren Caroline, Lorelei, Will, Andrew, Henry, and Eliza. He is also survived by brothers-in-law Elliot Perret (Joan) and Camille Perret (Shirley) and sisters-in-law Frances “Coonie” McDonald, Jackie Perret, and Jean Perret. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings-in-law Michel “Mike” Perret, Wade Perret, Johnny and Sylvia “Pal” Champagne, and Glen McDonald.
Irving contributed greatly to his community, having been a leader in the Vacherie Volunteer Fire Department, the announcer for St. James High Football games, a member of the choir at St. James Catholic Church, and a hall-of-fame track and field official for LSU. He worked for Kaiser Aluminum/LaRoche Chemical Company his entire professional life, served four years in the Army Reserve, and attended Loyola University and Louisiana State University.
Irving loved his wife and children dearly, was proud of his grandchildren and tickled by his great-grandchildren, shared inside jokes with his sister, worked hard and tirelessly, truly enjoyed fishing and trains, mastered “Mawmaw Perret’s” fudge recipe, and liked watching any sports event.
A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 from 9:00 am until the Mass of Christian Burial for 11:00 am at St. James Catholic Church in St. James. Inurnment to follow at St. Philip Catholic Church Cemetery in Vacherie. Father Matthew McCaughey will be officiating. .
