Michael Joseph Chifici

He died peacefully at home after a long illness. Mike was born in Donaldsonville on August 15, 1951, and was a long-time resident of Gonzales. Prior to retirement he worked primarily as a process operator at various local chemical companies including CF Industries, Triad, and Ormet. Mike’s co-workers will remember him as someone easy to work with, always smiling, a friend to all, and a great cook.

Mike was a graduate of Ascension Catholic High, class of 1969. He played football for the Bulldogs and played Babe Ruth baseball before Catholic High had a baseball team. Mike especially loved fishing and was an accomplished bass fisherman – at least according to his own fishing stories! He also loved attending LSU baseball games with his brothers and watching football and baseball on TV. He was very smart – did the daily crossword puzzles without fail – and had a quick wit and a wonderful and always present sense of humor. Even in suffering for the past few years, Mike never complained. He continued to cook whenever he was able for his daughter and granddaughters who lived with him.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Henry Joseph Chifici of McDonoghville, Louisiana, his mother, Peggy Blanchard Chifici LeBlanc of Donaldsonville, and his grandson Brady James Chifici.

Left to grieve his passing are his son Justin Chifici (Krystle) of St. Amant; his daughter Jill Wiley of Gonzales; his brothers Gasper Chifici (Denise), Charles Chifici (Debbie), his sister Susan Chifici Charlet (Gerald); his grandchildren Brennen Chifici (Alexis), Chelsea Derise (Allison), Lily Beth Wiley, Lola Jane Wiley, and Brayden William Chifici; his great-grandchildren Ainsley and Beckham Derise, and Nate Paul Chifici; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at the Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church in Donaldsonville on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial for 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in the church mausoleum. Father Matt Dupre will officiate.

The pallbearers will be Gasper Chifici, Charles Chifici, Brennen Chifici, Gerald Charlet, Brent Charlet, Joey Trosclair, Cameron Bourgeois, and Jake Everitt.
