Richard was born on January 09, 1944 in West Helena AR. As a young boy, he spent his days on his family farm, and working at the family mechanic shop. A jack of all trades, he reminisced about his time working at the local bowling alley as the grill master.
In 1963, Richard married the love of his life, Shirley. Richard and Shirley went on to have one son, Ken. In 1969 the Sherman’s moved to Donaldsonville LA, for Richard’s career in the chemical plant. In his younger days he was an avid drag racer. Him and his brother Cliff enjoyed working on the cars as much as driving them.
In 1986 Richard and Shirley purchased The Trolling Motor shop in Baton Rouge, LA, known now as Front to Back Boat Service. A family business still run today by Ken, Angie, and Devin Sherman.
In 2009, Richard retired from Georgia Gulf after 36 years. During his tenure at Georgia Gulf, he volunteered his time as President of the Sunshine Bass club, whom he was a founding member of in 1975.
A hard worker, Richard never stopped. You would find him riding a tractor, mowing his lawn, trimming trees, bass fishing, or simply enjoying a glass of wine on his pond.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Allen and Elsie Sherman, and siblings John Sherman, Allen Sherman, Nathaniel Sherman, and Vickey Sherman Williams.
He is survived by his wife Shirley, brother Clifton (Cliff) Sherman (Jodie), son Kenneth (Ken) Sherman (Angie), his grandchildren, Devin Sherman (Lauren) and Summer Meyers (Randall), great grandson Jes Sherman, and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Public visitation will be held at Ourso Funeral Home in Donaldsonville LA, on August 2, 2024, from 5-9pm with A Moment of Remembrance for 7:00 pm. Following, he will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park in West Helena AR on August 5, 2024, at 10:30am. Pallbearers will be Cliff Sherman, Ken Sherman, Devin Sherman, Michael Truemper, Jay King, and Randall Meyers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Michael J.
