Born in Asbury Park, New Jersey on December 12, 1919, Anna was the fourth of five children and the only daughter. Orphaned as a child, she worked as a ‘Mother’s Helper’ before going to live with her eldest brother and his new bride, where she finished high school and dreamt of her future.
In the early 40’s, Anna moved out West in response to the need for telephone operators during the WWII. She became pen pals with a soldier who became the love of her life. William J. Vinet and Anna married in August, 1946 and bought a home in Los Angeles, where they raised two children, William Jr. and Lorena. Though they moved to Bell in 1966, the Vinets remained close with the community of friends and neighbors from their original neighborhood. Anna was devoted to her parish, St. Malachy’s and later St. Rose of Lima, her husband and children, and the many people that she knew.
In her ‘spare’ time, Anna loved to bake, knit, and crochet. Memories include a dining room table filled with cookies each year, carefully wrapped and distributed amongst neighbors. If you were really lucky, you might get a fruit cake infused with the only alcohol Anna allowed in the home! Additionally, Anna dedicated many years to Good Samaritan Hospital as a volunteer with their Cancer Services Center.
Anna is survived by son William and his wife Elyn Saks of Los Angeles; daughter Lorena and her husband Larry Scher of Whittier; and two granddaughters, Monica and Christine.
