She was born in Clare City, Minnesota to 19th century German immigrant parents. She was seventh of nine children. The family moved to a farm near Marvin, South Dakota when she was just a small child. She attended a rural county school. At age 15 she went to work and made her own living until she met her husband to be Alfred M. Kephart. They were married at the Baptist church in Strandburg, South Dakota on March 28, 1940. That fall they moved to a farm near Brainerd, Minnesota. In August of 1941 they were blessed a daughter, Christine Ann. In December of 1914 they headed for Maywood, California. They arrived the day World War II broke out. Alfred worked at the ship yards as a welder and blue print man. In May of 1943 they were blessed with a son, Alfred John. In 1944 they moved back to South Dakota, and eventually bought a farm in LaBoit, South Dakota. After many years of hard work raising their family and farming they sold the farm in 1968 and moved to California to be near their children. Christine started to a Day Care to keep busy. Alfred passed way in December of 1975 of a heart attack. Christine continued to care for children for thirty years until due to poor health she had to give it up. Until the end her flower garden was her pride and joy. She is survived by a daughter, Christine Ann Hogan of Lakewood, California and a son, Alfred John Kephart, wife Carol, of Crest Part, California; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Molly, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Alfred, three sister, and four brothers. She will be missed by all.
