Delia (Overlack) Ester was born November 27, 1921 in Langsa, Indonesia. She and her older brother, Eddie,
were raised by strong Christian parents. She was a very lovable child. She had a pet elephant, Minguu and a pet
monkey, Mooretje. She dearly loved her life in Indonesia. Adolescence was filled with ballet dancing and other
fun activities. During this time she learned several languages including English, German, Dutch, French and
Indonesian. She was involved in a Red Cross nursing course in Indonesia, as well as business school.
Shortly after her 21st birthday, she was placed in a Japanese Indonesian concentration camp. There she
experienced hunger, brutal conditions, and great life lessons. During her internment, her mother passed away.
She experienced great grief and learned perseverance. In the concentration camp she met Maria Ester, who
would later become her mother-in-law. She was released 3 1/2 years later and began work for the USO where she
met her husband Louis Ester. They were married in 1946 and had two children, Corinne and Helene. They lived in
Indonesia for a few years and traveled back to Holland for a furlough. After the furlough they were not allowed
back into Indonesia and lost everything. Due to cold weather conditions and lack of work, they were sponsored
by a church in Michigan to move to the United States. After living in Michigan for one year they relocated to
Artesia, California.
Delia worked at the Artesia Christian Home where she served for 28 years. It was one of her greatest loves.
She attended New Life Church and was a very active member. She is known for being a mighty prayer warrior
and her favorite verse was Romans 8:28.
She is survived by Corinne (daughter), Helene (daughter) and Glen (son-in-law), Mike (grandson) and Mercy
(wife) and great-grandsons (Josh and Luke). Amanda (granddaughter) and Will (husband) and great-
granddaughters (Abbey and Morgan).
