On June 6th, 1931, James Pat Myers was born in his grandmother's home in Helmsburg, Indiana. He was the first born child to Cecil and Marjorie followed by his brother David (aka Tat) and his sister Mariette. While in school, he played baseball and basketball, and loved to go squirrel hunting and fishing. James graduated from high school with a class of no more than 25 kids, and he was very proud that he never missed a day of school. After high school James worked for a meat packing company for a short time before being drafted to the United States Marine Corp, the first and only time the marines drafted (it was his lucky year).
While serving in California, James and his buddies decided to check out Hollywood. When in a bar (according to Red) or a dance club (according to Gloria) he met his best friend and knew they would be married one day. Next time you go to Hollywood stop by the bar in the Roosevelt Hotel on Hollywood Blvd. While in Korea they wrote letters back and forth until he was discharged. They got married in 1954 in Indiana then moved to California. David was born in 1957 and Linda came along in 1960.
After a few jobs James ended up at Swenson Manufacturing as a tool and die maker. It wasn’t only a job to him; he made great friends who have remained our extended family. He was able to retire at an early age of 62.
After retirement James enjoyed many things including fishing, woodworking and watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Gloria Myers, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brother, sister and many nieces and nephews.
