Jose Cuevas, born April 30th 1974 to Jose Luis and Maria Cuevas, in Ixtlan Michuacan, Mexico, one of four children, a sibling to one brother and two sisters. Jose was taken home to his Father in Heaven on April 30th, 2013 which was his 39th birthday. Jose lived most of his life as a resident in Compton California, finally residing in Downey with his lovely wife and two children.
A graduate of Compton High, class on 1992, he was the school’s Homecoming King. Jose met Sandra in the neighborhood during high school and they soon became best friends. Jose and Sandra’s friendship grew into love and they were married on August 13, 1994. Jose became a father to Yulissa in July of 1998 and to Izaak in April of 2004. Jose and Sandra have described their children as the “loves of their lives.” He was a devoted father who enjoyed spending time with his family, helping shape and mold their future.
Jose worked in the Orthopaedic Device Industry for over 20 years. He traveled to New Orleans, Tennessee and Warsaw Indiana supporting industry seminars for doctors with Ace Medical. He attended sales school with DePuy Orthopaedics to investigate moving to Orthopaedic Sales. He humbly chose to maintain his position in Distribution and became a leader, providing a wealth of knowledge and expertise serving the Los Angeles area and surrounding areas. He facilitated tens of thousands of surgeries over the span of his career, touching many lives through the building of surgical needs in Southern California.
He was an exceptional dancer; loved to play sports - basketball, soccer, football and swimming. His children describe him as energetic and playful, always making time for them even after long days working to support his family. He loved spending time with family, often taking up adventures with them on the weekend.
“The Replacements” was his favorite movie, he must have watched it at least a 1,000 times, and yet every time he watched it he reacted as if it was the first. He also enjoyed watching sports on TV with his Corona at his side. His wife describes him this way; “Jose was the perfect man; he had all the qualities, good and bad, the characteristics of a human. This is what made Jose the perfect husband, father, son, brother and friend to all. Jose lived a wonderful life, helping to support everyone; even those who did not accept him. He suffered greatly and prayed each day for acceptance, even waiting unto the day he left this Earth.”
Member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Jose lived out his faith within his family, exhibiting daily the principles of a loving Father and Husband, leading his family with strength and purpose. Jose was a dedicated and honorable man, whose life was taken much too soon; yet the seeds he sewed along the way were many and fruitful, and the memories he left ones that will stay and live with us forever.
