Dale was born in Rochester, IN to Lillian and Roy Ness on 14th February 1946. He was one of nine children and was the seventh born. Dale graduated from Kewanna High School in 1964 and he was one of twenty-two students in his class of that year. After high school, Dale enlisted into the United States Navy on 30th July 1965. Shortly after enlistment, Dale went to basic training from 29th November 1965 through 29th April 1966, there after stationed in Long Beach, California on the USS Walke DD-723 destroyer. Dale served during the Vietnam War as a radioman, while being in the United States Navy, he also met his wife by the name of Virginia in 1966. Dale and Virginia married on 24th January 1969 while serving the rest of his time in the Navy. Dale was honorably discharged on 5th August 1971. Dale and Virginia had a son in 1973 and a daughter by the name of Regina Anne on 6th March 1978. Dale was a very dedicated man and devoted to his wife and family.
Dale and Virginia were together for fifty years.
