Born January 26, 1929 and raised in Westdale, Don was the first recipient of the Stelco Scholarship. He attended Queen’s University, where he met his future wife Joan (née Nelson) and graduated in Science ’51. Don worked as a mechanical engineer at Westinghouse in Hamilton, notably designing and installing heavy generating equipment at Niagara Falls, Baie James and the Saguenay, and then later worked with the Electrical Manufacturers Association of Canada. In their 64 year marriage, Don and Joan had four children; Jan (David), David (Pat), Tim (Jane) and Sharon; and nine grandchildren. Don loved family time, the cottage and boating on Georgian Bay, volunteering as a Scout leader and School Trustee, woodworking, and “making a silk purse from a sow’s ear”. Don’s family is receiving friends at the Marlatt Funeral Home, 195 King St. W., Dundas, on Tuesday Nov. 29 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm.; funeral at 11:00 am on Wednesday Nov. 30. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Diabetes Association or the Science ’51 Scholarship Fund at Queen’s University would be appreciated.
