Eleanor passed away peacefully on February 9th, in her 96th year. Loving wife of precious husband, Ralph James Banner (predeceased in 2010). Adored and well-respected mother of Nancy & Kim Taylor, Julie & Fred Capretta, and predeceased by two wonderful sons: John Gregory (1964) and Douglas James Banner (2012).
Joan (Jack Lowry) was forever a devoted, loving sister, and Sheri Banner was always a thoughtful daughter-in-law.
Always the true joy of her life were her seven grandchildren: Scott Douglas, Jamie Weston, & Melinda Anne Taylor, Annie Catherine (Melvin) & Peter Declan Capretta (Rory), and Brett James & Steven Douglas Banner. She was blessed to have great-grandchildren in her lifetime: Jonathan and Katie Banner, Olin and June Eleanor Taylor, and Sophie Eleanor Bayoneto.
Eleanor held cherished and heartfelt memories of her dear Dad and Mother, Jim & Ada Weston.
Throughout her life Eleanor was an active member of Zion United Church, serving as a CGIT leader for many years. She received her BA in Botany at McMaster University, where she also met the love of her life – married for 56 blissful years. Ralph & Eleanor’s romance and mutual love for each other were unwavering, and exemplary, bonded by their loving desire to hold hands.
Blessed in her “twilight years” to live in a home with friendly, kind and cheerful residents at Amica Dundas for almost 15 years. The staff there was always efficient and caring.
Eleanor is thankful to God for her loving parents, devoted husband, family and friends.
Our mother was a very kind, sweet, smart, and self-effacing person, who possessed a great sense of humour. Mum loved high tea, chocolate, and flowers, particularly the pale pink rose.
Always the optimist, she liked to see the good in all people, and she lived by the J.O.Y. rule: Jesus first, Others second, Yourself last. Throughout her lifetime she baked many cakes & cookies, sent hundreds of cards, notes & newspaper clippings, cared for family members, and sickly neighbours on Cloverhill Road, and listened actively and sincerely to anyone she greeted - all acts of selfless love. In doing so, Mum brought JOY to many people every day of her life.
Friends may call at Marlatt Funeral Home, 195 King St. West, Dundas on Wednesday, February 12th from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A celebration of Eleanor’s life will be held in the Marlatt Memorial Chapel on Thursday, February 13th at 11 am, with a reception to follow. A private family interment will be held at Woodland cemetery after the reception. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SickKids Foundation, Amica Helping Hands Charity, or a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made below.
