Mary Cornelia Westenberg

After experiencing many serious health problems and hospitalizations over the years, Mary went into the loving arms of the Lord on Wednesday, March 6, 2024. With her family by her side, Mary died peacefully and with a heart full of her deep faith in her Savior. Mary was predeceased by her husband Henk in 2013 and will now be reunited with the love of her life. Mary will be deeply missed by her children, Lori (Rich), Eric (Christina), her grandchildren, Kirstie (Sean), Sarah (Neel), Olivia, Matthew, and Nolen. Mary was expecting her first great-grandchild this coming May. Mary was a kind and loving sister and sister-in-law to late Peter (Coby), late Nettie (Leen), Lou, late Dien (late Geert), late Jan (late Hennie), late Gerrit-Jan (late Jo), late John (Ena), Riek (late Gerrit), and late Herbie (Joke).

Mary was born in the Netherlands to Leunis and Hendrika Dekker (Berenschot) on February 26, 1942. She and her family came to Canada by boat after World War II, where they settled in Sarnia Ontario.

Mary’s kind, happy and bubbly personality, along with her love for children led her to follow her lifelong dream of becoming a primary school teacher. After graduating from teacher’s college, Mary met her husband Henk Westenberg, they married in 1966 and had two children, Lori and Eric.

Mary taught her beloved students for many decades at Calvin Christian School in Flamborough and retired from teaching in the 1990s. She and her husband enjoyed their golden years in their Dundas home, where they spent much of their time caring for Henk’s parents Hendrik and Hendrika.

If you visited Mary and Henk, you would usually find Mary at her piano playing music, singing and writing music, Mary’s deep faith and love of the Lord was expressed in the many songs she played, sang, and wrote.

Mary left fond memories with all those who had the opportunity to meet her, and she will be deeply missed by many.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice in Mary’s name.

Visitation will be held at Marlatt Funeral Home, Swackhamer Chapel, 195 King Street West, Dundas (905-627-7452) on Sunday, March 10, 2024 from 2:00pm-4:00pm and 6:00pm-8:00pm. A funeral service will be held in the Marlatt Funeral Home Chapel, on Monday, March 11, 2024 at 11:00am. Interment to follow at Grove Cemetery, Dundas.
