December 25, 1934 – May 26, 2025.
Walter Hamilton Milligan passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family on Monday, May 26th, 2025, at Margaret's Place in Dundas, in his 91st year. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and legendary storytelling. Born in Belfast and raised in Ballydrain, Northern Ireland, Walter came to Canada in 1961. Within just two days, he landed a job as an electrician at Stelco, where he worked for 40 years—becoming a trusted colleague and friend. Even after retirement, Walter wasn’t one to sit still. He continued working locally as everyone’s favourite electrician, always happy to lend a hand or share a story. He was a trusted neighbour, the go-to guy on the street, and could often be found tending to his beautiful garden—another place where his quiet care and pride came to life. Walter was a devoted family man who dedicated his life to caring for those he loved. His greatest joy was his family—especially his grandchildren, Sam and Sophia, who lit up his world—and the grand-dogs Guinness, Finnigan, and the newest addition, Rudy. He took immense pride in his daughters and the lives they built, always showing up with support and unconditional love and was a steadfast, loving partner to his late wife, Betty. Whenever help was needed, Walter showed up—quietly, generously, and without hesitation. He loved travelling back to Ireland to spend time with his extended family and lifelong friends, cherishing the deep roots and connections that meant so much to him. Walter was known for his remarkable work ethic, sharp sense of humour, and unmatched gift for storytelling. Whether installing pot lights or spinning a tale with a twinkle in his eye, he had a way of making everyone feel welcome, seen, and part of the story. He is survived by his daughters, Kathleen (Brandon) and Nikki and his grandchildren Sam and Sophia. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Betty—his lifelong partner in love and laughter—as well as his six brothers and sisters in Northern Ireland. Walter’s stories, wisdom, and warmth will live on in all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered. Friends and family will be received at Marlatt Funeral Home - Swackhamer Chapel, 195 King St. W., Dundas, on Saturday May 31st from 12:00 until the time of the Funeral Service in the Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Cremation to follow. As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made to Margaret's Place Hamilton, or the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada.
