Benjamin Carrero Lorenzo entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, after a long battle with illness. Born in Rincón, Puerto Rico in 1954, Benjamin carried his heritage with pride, eventually making his home in Connecticut, where he built a life and a long career with CT Transit. Life wasn’t easy, but Ben always met its challenges in his own way.
He is survived by his wife, Saida Carrero of East Hartford, his daughters, Jasmin Carrero LeBlanc and her husband Paul of Marlborough, Jessica Carrero of Manchester and Julissa Carrero and her husband Michael Hunt of East Hartford. His four cherished grandchildren, Autumn Rosa LeBlanc, Stella Carmen Freitas, Cole Benjamin LeBlanc, and Liam Jack LeBlanc, lit up his world in ways words can’t fully capture, his siblings Gloria Rodriguez and her husband Ruben of New Jersey, Zory Carrero of Puerto Rico, and Sara Carrero and her husband Antonio Negron of East Hartford, and Papo Carrero of Florida and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Isidro Carrero and Vitalia Lorenzo, his brothers, Freddy, Junior, and Cheo Carrero and his sister Carmen Rodriguez.
Ben was a man of simple joys—a Yankees game on TV, a good comedy movie, the thrill of playing his numbers, and the familiar comfort of his well-worn denim jacket. He was a quiet observer, a sharp wit, and someone whose humor could sneak up on you when you least expected it. His love was never loud, but it was there, steady and real, like the sparkle in his eye when he had a good joke to whisper to you at church.
Though his time here has ended, his story—full of laughter, quiet strength, and a deep connection to his roots—will continue through those who knew and loved him.
His family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday, February 13, 2025 from 4 pm - 7 pm at the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter St, East Hartford. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Alzheimer’s Association of CT, 200 Executive Blvd, Suite 4B, Southington, CT 06489.
