

Carmine J. ""Joe"" Jovino, Jr., 79, of East Hartford, loving husband of over 57 years of Rose Marie (Civitello) Jovino, peacefully journeyed home surrounded by his caring family on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at the Masonicare Health Center and Hospital, Wallingford. Born in Hartford on September 23, 1936, son of the late Carmine J. and Alice M. (Wyse) Jovino, he had been a resident of East Hartford since 1959. Carmine was a graduate of Ellsworth High School in South Windsor, Class of 1954, and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War Era. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford for over 40 years as a machine operator. After his retirement from Pratt & Whitney, he continued to work at Stop & Shop as a grocery clerk until 2013, working in that industry for over 40 years. Joe was an avid fan of the UCONN Huskies basketball teams and the Boston Red Sox. He also enjoyed working outside all year around his yard. Most of all, Joe was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished his time with his family and friends. Along with his beloved wife, Rose Marie, Carmine is survived by three daughters, Kim M. Stone and her fiancé Jay Weingart of East Hartford, Kathy L. Pontarelli and her husband Ron of Manchester, Diane R. Gerlach and her husband Gerry of Ashford; three sons, Michael D. Jovino of Norwich, Jeffrey J. Jovino of Plainville, Larry Jovino and his wife Laura of South Windsor; eleven special grandchildren, Jeremy Cowles, Holly Parimore and her husband Nick, Matthew Stone, Brandon Gerlach and his wife Cortney, Kelli Postemski and her husband Dan, Marissa Stone, Connor Gerlach, Amanda Jovino, Aimee Jovino, Ryan Jovino, Jenny Jovino; seven adored great-grandchildren, Abigail, Braedon, Caleb, Brody, Mia, Sean, and Everett. He also leaves two sisters, Peggy French and Nancy Fortin both of East Windsor; several nieces, nephews, former co-workers, and dear friends. Private funeral service and burial with military honors will be held at the convenience of the family. Carmine's family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday (March 10, 2016) from 4-7 pm at the D'Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Carmine's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association , 200 Executive Blvd, Suite B, Southington, CT 06489.
