Jack R. Ramsey

Jack R. Ramsey, 84, of East Hartford, loving husband of sixty-three years to Geneva R. (Peterson) Ramsey, died Tuesday (April 6, 2010) at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. Born in Kansas City, MO on May 23, 1925, a son of the late Clyde and Ninetta (Akins) Ramsey, he had resided in East Hartford for the past fifty-six years. Jack was a proud veteran of World War II, Korean War, and the Vietnam War. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard for over twenty-three years, retiring as a Master Chief Radioman (RMCM). He also worked as an engineer for Connecticut Public Broadcasting for over twenty years. Jack was a faithful communicant of St. Christopher Church, East Hartford and enjoyed gardening, especially tomatoes. He was a life-member of the U.S. Coast Guard Combat Veterans association, the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officers Association, the VFW Post #2083, East Hartford, and the Manchester Sportsman Association. Besides his beloved wife, Geneva, Jack is survived by four sons, Michael J. Ramsey of Tampa, FL, Thomas R. Ramsey and his wife, Ellen, of San Diego, CA, Dennis P. Ramsey and his wife, Mary, of Tampa, FL, Robert W. Ramsey and his wife, Idalmi, of Berlin; nine special grandchildren, Keri, Kristy, Dennis Roy, Sondra, David, Nicole, Alex, Julian, and Gabriel; three great-grandchildren, Bailey, Kailyn, and Austin; several nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, April 10 at 9 am from the D'ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am at St. Christopher Church, East Hartford. Burial with full military honors will be at Veteran's Memorial Field-Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Friday, April 9 from 4-7 pm.
