

Jaroslaw “Jerry” “Kap” Kapij, 76, of Wethersfield and formerly of East Hartford, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 25, 2023. Born in Ansbauch, Germany on January 15, 1947, a son of the late Roman and Eugenia (Madarasz) Kapij, he had been a resident of East Hartford for many years prior to moving to Wethersfield five years ago. Jerry was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era. Before retiring, he was a talented Home Improvement Contractor for many years in the Greater Hartford area. He loved to fish, golf, watch his grandchildren play sports, and was an avid New York Yankees fan. Most of all he was a proud father and grandfather who enjoyed watching his grandkids and cherished every moment he spent with all fifteen grandchildren.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Schuberth) Kapij of East Hartford; two sons, Paul M. Kapij and his fiancée Sarah Castaneda of North Smithfield, RI, David J. Kapij and his wife Tammy of Marlborough; a daughter, Megan Lancelin and her husband Louis of Vernon; fifteen special grandchildren, Anthony, Brayden, Nick, Paul Jr., Michaela, Trenton, Camryn, Maya, Louis Jr., Tommy, Jason, Charlie, Kevin, Nathan, and Elyse. He also leaves a brother, Walter Kapij of Wethersfield; a sister, Alice Pallak and her husband David of Westbrook; three sisters-in-law, Mary Haley, Rose O’Brien, Anita Sullivan and her husband Dick; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Calling hours will be Friday (December 1, 2023) from 9 am to 10:30 am at the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 am at St. Mary’s Church of North American Martyrs Parish, Main Street, East Hartford. Burial with military honors will be at Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jaroslaw’s name may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
