
Jean (Harrington) McCarthy, 82, of East Hartford, loving wife of 55 years of Edward F. McCarthy, died Wednesday, (June 20, 2012) at the Manchester Manor. Born in Worcester, MA on February 4, 1930, a daughter of the late Charles F. and Alice (Rudison) Harrington, she had been a resident of East Hartford since 1952. A graduate of Fitchburg State College in Fitchburg, MA, she was a proud homemaker, and a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. A devout catholic, she was a faithful member of Blessed Sacrament/Our Lady of Peace Churches, East Hartford. She was a long-time member of the Glenbrooke Swim & Tennis Club in East Hartford and a talented bowler who participated in many area women's bowling leagues. She was an avid reader, knitter, and a loyal fan of the UCONN Women Basketball teams. Besides her beloved husband, Edward, Jean is survived by two sons, Michael P. McCarthy and his wife, Andrea, of Silver Spring, MD, Stephen C. McCarthy and his wife, Denise, of Andover, a daughter, Mary A. Commendatore and her husband, Tony, of Warwick, RI; two brothers, Charles F. Harrington, Jr. of Concord, MA, David Harrington and his wife, Mary, of South Yarmouth, MA; two sisters, Anne Charron of Cazenovia, NY, Susie Black of Provo, UT; a sister-in-law, Jean Moske of Sandy Hook; five adored grandchildren, Patrick, Daniel, Anthony, Kevin, Shannon; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday (June 23) at 10 a.m. from the D'Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Church, May Road/Brandon Road, East Hartford. Private burial will be held at St. James Cemetery, Manchester at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Saturday morning from 9-10 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jean's name may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, 74 Batterson Park Road , Farmington, CT 06032.
