
Jean-Louis Gilbert, 84, of East Hartford, loving husband for 45 years to Evelyn (Laroche) Gilbert, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Saturday (March 5, 2011) after many years of declining health. Born in St. Aurelie, province of Quebec, Canada on September 2, 1926, a son of the late Pierre Alphonse and Regina (Berube) Gilbert, he had resided in Hartford for several years prior to moving to East Hartford 45 years ago. Prior to his retirement, Jean-Louis was employed for 25 years by the former Choice Vend in Windsor Locks and he later worked at Southern Auto Auction in East Windsor. He was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church, East Hartford and a gentleman who enjoyed cooking, camping, and boating. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Hercule Gilbert of East Hartford and six other siblings in Canada. Along with his beloved wife, Evelyn, Jean-Louis is survived by his caring son, Louis J. Gilbert of Hartford; two brothers, Roger Gilbert of East Hartford, Benoit Gilbert and his wife, Agnes, in Canada; three sisters, Jeannine Edmonds of Ellington, Lucille Levesque and her husband, Gaston, of East Hartford, Cecile Gilbert in Canada; two sisters-in-law, Maureen Gilbert of East Hartford, Madelyn Dubois and her partner, Aurelle Ouellette in Maine; a brother-in-law, Robert Dubois in Maine; and many nieces and nephews in the United States and Canada. Funeral services will be Saturday (March 12th) at 9:45 a.m. from the D'Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, Cambridge Drive, East Hartford. Entombment will follow at St. Mary's Mausoleum, Burnside Avenue, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Friday (March 11th) from 4-7 pm.
