

Joan V. (Lynch) Merrick, 77, of East Hartford, loving wife of the late John L. Merrick, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 surrounded by her loved ones at her home. Born in Hartford on November 22, 1930, a daughter of the late John V. and Irene D. (Shannon) Lynch, she had resided in East Hartford for the past forty-seven years. Prior to her retirement she was employed by the State of Connecticut-Treasury Department for twenty years. Joan was very active in her children?s activities and was especially proud of being a Cub Scout Leader of Den #1 in East Hartford. However, Joan received her most joy in being a proud grandmother to her grandchildren and their children. Joan is survived by two sons, Stephen Merrick and his wife, Jean, of East Hartford, Thomas Merrick and Patricia Carpenter both of Somers; three daughters, Patricia Merrick of East Hartford with whom she made her home, Irene Zdrojowy and her husband, Gary, of Bolton, Diane Cormier and her husband, Michael, of Marlborough; six special grandchildren, Heather, Shannon, Stephen, and Jonathan Merrick, John and Daniel Cormier; five adored great-grandchildren, Savanna, Anthony, Katrina, Morgan, and Cameron. Joan also leaves three brothers, Francis Lynch of Delano, NY, John Lynch, Jr. of West Hartford, Paul Lynch of Wethersfield; a sister, Mary Michaud of Newington; a goddaughter, Mary Lou Conlon of West Hartford; a special friend, Maggie Sessa of Meriden; several nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Besides her beloved husband of 36 years and her parents, Joan was predeceased by a brother, Richard 'Hank' Lynch of West Hartford. Funeral services will be Friday (November 21st) at 9 AM from the D?ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter St., East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 AM at Blessed Sacrament Church, Cambridge Dr., East Hartford. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel TODAY from 4-8 PM.
