

John R. Markey, 86, of East Hartford, loving husband of 63 years of Patricia J. (Donahue) Markey, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, March 24, 2015. Born in Manchester, NH on August 1, 1928, a son of the late Martin and Mary (McAndrew) Markey, he had been a resident of East Harford since 1953. John was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement he was employed as an Iron Worker for 35 years by the Iron Workers Local 15. John was a communicant of St. Christopher Church, East Hartford and enjoyed gardening. John was a family member who was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Along with his beloved wife, Patricia, John is survived by three sons, John P. Markey of East Hartford with whom he made his home, Martin E. Markey of Rockville, David R. Markey also at home in East Hartford; three daughters, Deborah Vinci and her husband, Chet, of Southwick, MA, Maureen Markey-Ryan and her husband, Tim Ryan, of Ellington, Kathleen Markey-Shillington of Rockville. He also leaves a sister, Sister Monica Markey of Dover, NH; eleven cherished grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Funeral service will be Saturday (March 28th) with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am at St. Christopher Church, 538 Brewer Street, East Hartford. (John’s family asks that everyone please go directly to the church on Saturday morning). Burial with military honors will follow at Silver Lane Cemetery, Veteran’s Memorial Field #2, East Harford. Relatives and friends may call at the D’Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford on Friday (March 27th) from 5-7 pm.
