Joseph V. Conti, Sr., 78, passed away at home on Tuesday, (October 30, 2012) with his loving family by his side. Joe passed as peacefully as possible after what seemed to be a quick yet unbeatable illness. He loved his house and being home so spending his final days in the comfort of his own home was a blessing for him and his family. Born June 19, 1934, Joe was married on his 20 birthday to his beloved wife of 58 years, Anne (Petruzzello) Conti. The couple celebrated their 50 wedding anniversary with family and friends in 2004. Joe was born at home on Morgan Street in Hartford and grew up in the Front Street neighborhood, of which he had fond and proud memories. Joe is the son of the late James V. and Lucy (Monteleone) Conti, originally from Floridia, Sicily. He attended Hartford Public Schools. He was a resident of East Hartford for the past 53 years, residing in the home that he helped to build. He took pride in his home, his yard and his pool and could fix just about anything with perfection. He loved helping others and was always there to lend a helping hand especially to his children, grandchildren, other family and friends. Among other things, Joe loved the Yankees, watching his grandchildren play baseball, Team CT Baseball, soccer and other sports, watching and feeding the birds in his backyard, reading his daily newspaper, making and giving away palm crosses every year, singing in church, collecting things, tools and equipment and spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed a once a month breakfast meeting with the ""Front Street East Side Gang"". Joe was a Steamfitter and proud member and retiree of the Steamfitters Local 218, 84, and the current Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 777, where he earned his 50 year pin. For Joe's 70 birthday he traveled to Italy and Sicily with his sons and oldest grandson to meet his relatives, a significant life event that he cherished. Joe is survived by his wife, Anne P. Conti, son James M. Conti of East Hartford, son Joseph V. Conti, Jr. and his wife, Janine Conti of Glastonbury. ""Papa"" leaves three beloved grandsons, Michael A. Conti, Joseph V. Conti, III, and Derek J. Conti all of Glastonbury; his sister Pauline Grinold of East Hartford, sister Anna Greene and her husband Wendell Greene of Randolph, VT; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, and friends also survive Joe. We acknowledge friend and member of our family, Albert DiLoreto, whose help during Joe's final days was invaluable. The family also thanks his physicians and the VNA Hospice team for their assistance and support.
