After a courageous battle with cancer, which she waged with grace and optimism, Lisa Mondo Dethy entered into eternal life through her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was surrounded by her loving family and encouraged by the love and prayers from a wide circle of friends. Lisa leaves behind her beloved son, Ryan Dethy and his wife Maria Cruz (London,England), Ryan’s father David Dethy (San Antonio, TX), her precious mother Shirley Mondo (East Hartford), her sister Chris Falce and her husband Peter (Houston, TX), her brother Vince Mondo and his wife Shelly (Marlborough), her sister Patty Mondo (East Hartford), her nephews Nick and Zach Falce, her nieces Rebecca, Olivia, Madeline and Isabelle Mondo and Sarah O’Neil. She was predeceased by her father Vincent Mondo and her sister Margaret Mondo O’Neil.
Lisa was a graduate of Penney High School and Central Connecticut State University and lived most of her adult life in New Jersey, where she worked as a claims supervisor at NJM and made many lifelong friends. Lisa’s passion was art and her incredible hand drawn cards and exquisite crafts were cherished by all who received them. She also loved being outdoors as often as possible, enjoying all of God’s glorious creation. She combined those two loves by leaving beautiful and inspirational painted rocks along some of her favorite walking paths.
Lisa’s faith in God was what enabled her to face death with utter peace. She was a member of St Christopher’s Catholic Church in East Hartford and derived much comfort from the Bible study group she attended there. In spite of her illness Lisa wanted to help others and was dedicated to serving at the South Congregational Church food bank.
Lisa’s family would like to thank the staff of Dr Jeffrey Kamradt’s office for their loving care for Lisa and compassion for our family. We especially thank Colleen Brown for not only being a skilled healthcare provider, but a dear friend as well. We are also so grateful for Jordan St Cyr’s incredible song Weary Traveler. Lisa listened to his song over and over in her last days and it was a source of tremendous strength and hope.
There will be a funeral Mass on Wednesday, April 26th at St Christopher’s Catholic Church in East Hartford at 11:00 AM. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations can be made to United Negro College Fund (uncf.org) or American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (arson.org), two organizations that were close to her heart.
