

MaryBeth “Betsy” (Longworth) Reid, of Manchester, loving wife of over 61 years of James A. Reid, peacefully passed away after a long illness on Monday, December 8, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loved ones. Born in Hartford on February 11, 1945, a daughter of the late Stephen and Rita (Beaupre) Longworth, she had been a resident of Manchester since 1984. MaryBeth was a graduate of Holy Trinity High School in Hartford, class of 1963.
Prior to her retirement, MaryBeth was the Executive Director for the East Hartford Chamber of Commerce for 28 years and was a former member of the East Hartford Women’s Club. MaryBeth loved spending time with her family and friends. She also loved shopping, and that meant bargain hunting. She was always happy when she found something to enhance her already fabulous wardrobe, or a great treat for one of her special grandkids. A kind and generous woman, MaryBeth helped several area charities, including participating in benefit walks for cancer and Alzheimer associations. Most of all, MaryBeth was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished every moment spent with her family.
Along with her beloved husband Jim, MaryBeth is survived by two sons, Stephen J. Reid and his wife Deborah of Somers, Jeffrey H. Reid and his wife Bonnie of Manchester; and four adored grandchildren, Sophia Reid, Margaret Reid, Grace Reid, and Henry Reid all of Manchester. She also leaves a brother, James Longworth and his wife Nina of Scottsdale, AZ; a sister, Sandra Longworth of California; a sister-in-law, Sandra Longworth of Rutland, Vermont; her longtime caregivers, Jeanie Paradis and Suzanne Skinner; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Besides her parents, MaryBeth was predeceased by a brother, Gerald Longworth of Windsor, a sister and brother-in-law Susan and Paul Genereaux of Birmingham, AL.
Funeral service will be Friday (December 19th) at 9:45 am from the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 am at St. Dunstan Church, 1345 Manchester Road, Glastonbury. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park, (Section 25), Elm Street, Rocky Hill. MaryBeth’s family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday afternoon (December 18th) from 4 – 6 pm at the funeral home chapel.
