Maureen “Moe” (Cavanaugh) Sundin, 80, of East Hartford, loving wife of over 59 years of James G. Sundin, Jr., peacefully passed away on her 80th birthday, Sunday, February 21, 2021, at Hartford Hospital. Born in Hartford on February 21, 1941, a daughter of the late John P. Cavanaugh and Alice (Conley) Cavanaugh Settino, she had been a resident of East Hartford since 1965. Maureen was a graduate of Hartford Public High School, class of 1959. Prior to her retirement, she was employed for over 22 years by the town of Glastonbury Department of Education as a Paraprofessional. A devout Catholic, Maureen was a longtime faithful communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church, East Hartford where she served as a Eucharistic Minister for several years. An avid reader and line dancer, she also was an active member of the East Hartford Southend Senior Center who enjoyed going on several bus trips to area casinos and different venues. Most of all, Maureen was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother cherishing those special moments with her entire family.
In addition to her beloved husband, Maureen is survived by a daughter, Deborah Bailey and her husband Peter of Bolton; a son, James G. Sundin, III and his wife Reagan of Ellington; six special grandchildren, Katie Harrison of Stamford, Samantha Bailey of Bolton, Kaila Morrow and Jaidyn Morrow both of Ellington, Justin Bailey and Andrew Bailey both of Delaware; several nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Besides her parents, Maureen was predeceased by an infant son, John Sundin; and two brothers, John P. Cavanaugh and his wife Doris of Enfield, Peter T. Cavanaugh of Stamford.
Funeral service will be Friday (February 26th) with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am at Our Lady of Peace Church of St. Edmund Campion Parish, 370 May Road, East Hartford. Burial will follow at Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford. Maureen’s family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday (February 25th) from 4 – 6 pm at the D’Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church on Friday morning and please wear a face covering and adhere to all Covid-19 regulations at the church and funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Maureen’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of CT, 200 Executive Blvd., Suite 4B, Southington, CT 06489.
