

Monika Kulhawy, 73, of East Hartford, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. Born in Alfeld, Germany on August 22, 1951, a daughter of the late Max A. and Luzie (Thiel) Kulhawy, she had been a resident of East Hartford since 1970. Monika was a graduate of Hartford Public High School, class of 1969. Monika spent her entire working career in the insurance business as an Insurance Agent. She started her career at Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company in Hartford where she worked 20 years and then continued her career at I.N.G. in Avon for several years.
Monika was a talented and avid bowler of both ten-pin and duckpin bowling, and she participated as a member in several area leagues. She enjoyed camping, gardening, and traveling. She traveled cross-country two times in the United States and throughout Europe. She liked reading the newspaper daily and solving cross word puzzles and was a loyal fan of the New York Yankees. A generous individual, Monika supported various charities in her lifetime including the American Heart Association and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as well as many others.
Monika is survived by her three beloved sisters, Renate Bourque and her husband Pierre of Portland, Oregon, Marianne Greissle and her husband Peter of East Hartford, Erika Ayers and her husband Aaron of Clarksville, Tennessee; several nieces, nephews, cousins, former co-workers, and dear friends. In addition to her parents, Monika was predeceased by a dear friend in October of 2013, Elizabeth Ann “Chicky” O’Keefe who was a lifelong friend, roommate and co-worker for over 20 years.
Funeral service will be Friday, March 28, 2025 at 11 am at the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. Inurnment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum, Burnside Avenue, East Hartford. Monika’s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday morning (March 28th) from 10-11 am at the funeral home chapel.
