Born in Cambodia on February 1, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Chhom and Van Vann.
A survivor of the Cambodian genocide under the Khmer Rouge, she bore the profound sorrow of losing and laying to rest some of her children.
Saret devoted her life to raising her children and grandchildren and caring for her family as a homemaker. In the 1990s, she proudly became a citizen of the United States. In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting and knitting. She loved to dress elegantly and took pride in her appearance, with red being her favorite color. She was also an avid gardener who grew flowers and vegetables, and she was known as an excellent cook. Saret will be remembered as a kind, loving, and beautiful soul.
Saret is survived by her five children: Chithserey Ouk, with whom she made her home with and was her primary caretaker; Valyna Loeu and her husband, Kannareth; Ritty Ouk and his wife, Sopha; Ratana Yin and her husband, Savath; and Somphothea Ouk. She also leaves behind her five grandchildren, Kendrick Loeu, Kevin Loeu, Chinda Flores, Amanda Ouk, and Darick Ouk; two great-grandchildren, Pablo Rivera and Zoe Stewart; as well as several nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
In addition to her parents, Saret was predeceased by her beloved husband of 28 years, Saret Ouk, and seven children.
Saret’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Hartford Healthcare Hospice caretakers such as Amanda, Alana, Hannah, and more for taking such great care of her.
A funeral service for Saret will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2026, from 8:30 am – 12:30 pm at the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. For on-line expressions of sympathy to the family, please visit www.desopoeh.com
