Suzanne “Sue” (Monette) Oatway, 76, of Manchester, wife of 54 years of the late Bruce B. Oatway, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at her home. Born in Manchester on August 8, 1949, a daughter of the late Francis E. and Olivia (Lopes) Monette, she had been a lifelong resident of Manchester. She was a graduate of Manchester High School, class of 1968. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the town of Manchester Board of Education as a paraprofessional for 19 years. After retirement, she concentrated on being the caretaker for her son Jason. She also liked crocheting and being around her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandson.
Suzanne is survived by her two sons, Brian B. Oatway and his wife Jennifer of East Hartford, Jason F. Oatway of Manchester; three grandchildren, Steven H. Oatway and his wife Ashley of East Hartford, Kevi Olivia Oatway of Manchester, Sydney Rose Oatway of East Hartford; and one great-grandson. She also leaves a brother, Mark Monette of Manchester; her best friend, Lynn Nicholson of Manchester; several nieces, nephews, cousins, former co-workers, and dear friends.
There will be a private graveside service for Suzanne and her husband Bruce with military honors at the Hillstown Cemetery Veteran’s Field in Manchester at the convenience of her family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Suzanne’s name may be made to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center Foundation, 282 Washington Street, Hartford, CT 06106. The D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
